Nose And Sinus

Headaches Treatment | Allergies Treatment | Oceanside CA | Carlsbad
The nasal cavity and surrounding sinuses assist in maintaining the functionality and structure of the head and neck area. Lined with a layer of mucous tissue, the nasal cavity and sinuses are susceptible to a number of conditions. Infections, trauma or injury, anatomical issues and more may be responsible for the symptoms a patient is experiencing relating to the nose or sinuses. After a physical examination and an evaluation of the symptoms, a physician can provide a diagnosis and customized treatment plan to address the condition.
We provide treatments for the following:
  • Headaches
A headache, also known as cephalalgia, is a continuous pain in the head that affects the head, eyes, temples, nose, skin or the entire head. Headache pain can be either sharp or dull. Headaches are classified as either primary or secondary. Headaches, such as migraine headaches, do tend to run in families. Approximately 20 percent of children and adolescents experience headaches. Of the people who develop headaches, 70 percent of them are women. More than 45 million people in the United States experience headaches. More than half of them are migraine headaches. Headaches are the most common reason for days lost at work and school.
  • Nasal Obstruction
There are several causes of nasal obstruction that can affect your ability to breathe properly. Structural problems caused by deformities of the cartilage or bony structures of the nasal framework are common causes of nasal obstruction. These include a deviated nasal septum, swollen turbinate tissue, nasal polyps, and large adenoids.Other causes may be non-anatomical and due to conditions that cause the nasal lining to swell, including chronic sinusitis or a thyroid abnormality.
  • Sinus Infections and Polyps (Sinusitis)
Sinusitis is a common medical ailment occurring when the sinus cavities in the upper skull become inflamed and do not drain property. When the sinuses accumulate fluid and mucus due to allergy or upper respiratory illness, their passages become obstructed. Without proper drainage, the impacted material becomes a fertile area for viruses, bacteria, or occasionally fungi to grow and create infection.
Nasal polyps are benign growths that develop within the lining of the nasal passages or sinuses. If large enough, these growths may block the passages and cause breathing difficulties, sinus infections or other complications.
Nasal polyps are most common in adults, especially those who have asthma or allergies. Children with cystic fibrosis are also at a higher risk of developing nasal polyps. They often develop in occurrence with respiratory diseases such as sinusitis and allergic rhinitis or immunodeficiency conditions.
Most patients with nasal polyps frequently experience nasal congestion, as well as runny nose, headache, facial pain, loss of smell or taste and sinus pressure. Some patients may not have any symptoms if the polyp is small.
  • Loss of Smell or Taste
Taste and smell disorders are closely related, common conditions that affect the chemosensation system and may develop as a result of genetic factors, injury, upper respiratory infections or exposure to certain chemicals. Taste and smell disorders are common conditions that affect many people each year.
Gustatory cells react to the food and beverages that we consume and trigger a signal to the brain that allows us to taste different flavors. The sense of taste is actually transmitted primarily through the sense of smell, although taste nerves also serve an important function. In many cases, patients may visit a doctor complaining of a problem with their sense of taste and learn instead that they have a smell disorder.
  • Deviated Nasal Septum, Nosebleeds and Nasal Drip
A deviated septum is a displacement of the septum, the wall that separates the nostrils, to one side of the nose. It is often the result of an injury to the nose, although it may originate in utero. A severe deviated septum may cause nasal congestion, nosebleeds and frequent sinus infections; a minor one may have no symptoms at all.
  • Allergies
Allergies are abnormal responses of the immune system to normally harmless substances. These substance are known as allergens. Some of the most common allergens affecting the ear, nose and throat are pollen, dust, mold and animal dander. When the body is exposed to an allergen, it releases a variety of chemicals, including histamine. Histamine is the precipitating cause of the allergic reaction.

A newer technique used in place or as an adjunct to traditional endoscopic sinus surgery.
Nose and sinus ailments are treated by using the latest techniques of computer imaging, fiberoptic endoscopy, and endoscopic sinus surgery.
